Booking early-season NFL football oddsEver since the implementation of the College Football Playoff system, there has been an emphasis on building an eye-catching resume with early-season matchups against top teams. No longer are schools concerned about easing into the schedule against a couple of cupcake FCS schools. Playoff contenders are jumping right into the competitive fires, and Week 2 of the NCAA football season is a perfect example.
Week 2 could double as bowl season, with a number of marquee matchups on the betting board. We take a quick look at two of those sizable showdowns and their college football betting odds. Remember to sign-up on the website to get al of our expert sports betting picks:
Oklahoma Sooners at Ohio State Buckeyes (-7.5, 64.5)
Two of college football’s most storied programs butt heads in Week 2. The Sooners had one rough offseason, highlighted by the sudden departure of head coach Bob Stoops and some off-the-field issues for Heisman hopeful Baker Mayfield. Despite that, Oklahoma rolled to a 59-7 thumping of UTEP in Week 1, covering the spread as 43-point favorites.
This time around, OU is getting the points. The Buckeyes opened as 6.5-point favorites at home and money on Ohio State has pushed this past the key number of seven on tacked on an extra point. It’s a rare situation for the Sooners, after they were underdogs only once last year. Coincidently enough, that was against the Buckeyes last September when Ohio State won 45-24 as a 2-point road chalk.
This version of the Buckeyes opened the year with a 49-21 win over Indiana as 20.5-point road favorites. However, Ohio State did wobble a bit in the opening quarters and were down 14-13 at the half before outscoring the Hoosiers 36-7 in the final two frames. It can’t afford to start slow and fall https://viagragener.com behind quickly against the Sooners but there are ample weapons on the OSU offense and that will put Oklahoma’s suspect defense to the test Saturday.
Auburn Tigers at Clemson Tigers (-5, 53.5)
The defending national champs put their title to the test against an SEC opponent in Week 2. Clemson opened as a 6-point favorite at home to Auburn, but money on the road side has cut the spread down to five with the SEC’s Tigers getting plenty of preseason buzz as a potential sleeper playoff team.
Auburn returned 15 starters from 2016 – eight on offense and seven on defense – and it showed in its opening game with Georgia Southern. The Tigers allowed a first quarter touchdown and then locked down their opponent for a 41-7 win that pushed with the 34-point spread. Clemson is hoping to have tail back Kamryn Pettway back in action Saturday. He missed Week 1 due to a suspension and missed practice this week due to an injury.
Clemson opened its title defense with a 56-3 squash of Kent State, covering as a 38-point fave last weekend. The Tigers suffered a sizable turnover in talent, especially at quarterback were Deshaun Watson left for the pros. Current QB Kelly Bryant, who passed for 236 yards, a touchdown and a interception in Week 1, will get his first real taste of an SEC defense this Saturday.
Clemson has been a solid wager in non-conference game, covering in five straight outside the ACC including the win over Alabama in the National Championship Game. Auburn – the Crimson Tide’s hated rival – would love to get a win over the team that beat Bama in the title game, and send a message to the Tide that the Tigers are a threat in the SEC.
