The Brooklyn Nets will travel to Salt Lake City to face the Utah Jazz on the third game of their road trip. The Nets are in fourth place in the Eastern Conference with a 27-16 record.
However, they could easily move up or down a few spots in the next couple of games.
On the other side, the Jazz are seventh in the Western Conference with a 24-24 record. Utah could also move up or down a few spots in the next couple of days.
As I write this, the Nets are yet to play the Phoenix Suns. Their previous game was a 106-98 loss to the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday. This was their third loss in a row. The game was tied at halftime, but the Spurs built an eight-point lead in the third quarter, and that was enough.
The Nets were without Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving, which was detrimental to their success. The rest of the team could not make up for their absences, as they only made 42% of their shots and went 3-23 from behind the three-point line. Brooklyn was simply outmatched in this game.
The Jazz crushed the Los Angeles Clippers 126-103 in their previous game. The Jazz built up a lead early, and the Clippers could not mount a comeback.
Lauri Markkanen went off and scored 34 points. He was deadly from deep and 6-8 from behind the three-point line. No other Jazz player scored 20 points, but overall, Utah shot 51.7% from the field and 59.4% from deep.
This game will be close, but the Jazz will take it. They are healthier, playing at home, and will be facing a Nets squad without Kevin Durant again. In addition, the Nets are playing a game the night before and will not be rested.
If Kevin Durant was healthy, I would probably bet on the Nets. However, he will be out until at least early February, which leaves the Nets quite shorthanded. Durant provides so much offense for Brooklyn and is a top-five player in the NBA.
His absence is a huge loss for the Nets, but will likely be the reason Utah wins. Bet on the Jazz.
My Prediction: Utah 120, Brooklyn 116
45 of 82.
