A key AFC West matchup takes place with the Los Angeles Chargers (6 – 4) traveling to take on the Denver Broncos (5 – 5), on CBS at 4:05 PM EST. Their division is a close one. While the Denver Broncos are currently in last place, they are only 1.5 games behind the Kansas City Chiefs, while the Los Angeles Chargers are only 0.5 games back.
The Chargers will be without a few key members from their defense. Upfront, they are likely to be pretty thin with DT Linval Joseph, DE Jerry Tillery and DT Christian Covington on the reserve/COVID-19 list. Additionally, Asante Samuel Jr. is under concussion protocol.
Likewise, the Denver Broncos LT Garett Bolles went on the COVID-19 list, CB Callahan (knee) is on IR, ILB Baron Browning is dealing with back issues, and S Kareem Jackson (neck/shoulder) missed practice time and is unlikely to play this weekend as well.
Each of these rivals have won two out of their last three games, which is significant when you consider their standing within the division and the AFC overall. Divisional games such as these are especially important for playoff consideration. Historically, the Denver Broncos lead the series (69 – 53 – 1).
The key to this matchup will be Austin Ekeler’s impact against the Denver Broncos defense. With the third ranked scoring defense, and ninth ranked overall, Ekeler’s impact on the ground and in the air will be a key decider for the next chapter of this rivalry.
