The MLB regular season has nearly come and gone, and the once-competitive NL MVP race is no longer so competitive. The Atlanta Braves Ronald Acuna Jr. has almost secured the MVP award for the first time in his career.
DraftKings Sportsbook gives him -600 odds, and FanDuel Sportsbook and bet365 give Acuna Jr. -550 and -600 odds, respectively. This race was once close, and Mookie Betts and Matt Olson were also contenders, but Acuna Jr. has run away with it.
I will explain why Acuna Jr. is the best choice for this award in this article.
Ronald Acuna Jr. has played in all but three games this year, but his last full season was in 2019. The right fielder suffered a few major injuries in the seasons before this one and had only played a little over 200 games in 2021 and 2022.
However, he recovered quite and is having the best season of his career. With six games left in the season, the 25-year-old has a whopping 210 hits, 40 home runs, .336 average, .415 on-base percentage, 101 RBIs, and 78 walks. However, he may be most impressive on the base paths.
The Venezuelan has 68 steals this season and became the fifth player in MLB history this year to notch a 40-home run, 40-double season. His 40-40 season is the first since Alfonso Soriano’s in 2006. Simply put, the Venezuelan is tearing up the league and is unstoppable.
Acuna’s competition for this award was Mookie Betts and Matt Olson. Betts is one of the most consistent players in baseball and has a .309 average, 39 home runs, and 105 RBIs. His season has been nothing short of incredible but pales compared to Acuna’s.

AVG | HR | RBI | OPS | |
Ronald Acuna Jr. | .337 | 41 | 106 | 1012 |

Acuna’s teammate, Matt Olson, was also in the running for this award. Olson, a first baseman, is having the best season of his career and is arguably better than Mookie Betts.
Olson leads the league with 53 home runs and 133 RBIs but is not as strong defensively and not even close to as fast as Acuna. Even though he will not win the MVP this year, his fantastic season should not be minimized.
Acuna’s combined skill set of speed and power is the reason he will be this year’s NL MVP. These s kill sets make him incredibly impactful in every aspect of the game and will win him this award.
