AL MVP Mid-Season Update | News Article by inspin.com

The MLB season is halfway done, and the AL MVP race is not particularly contested.

Los Angeles Angels designated hitter and pitcher Shohei Ohtani has been on an absolute tear this season and has -650 odds (according to Draftkings) to win his second MVP award.

I will dive deeper into his stats in this article and briefly highlight a couple of other players.

Shohei Ohtani is undoubtedly the best player in baseball. He is a strikeout machine on the mound and is fourth in the MLB with 117 K’s. Beyond that, he has a 6-3 record, a 3.13 ERA, and a 1.04 WHIP.

Simply put, the Angels win when he is on the mound. At the plate, you could argue Ohtani is even better. He leads the MLB with 26 home runs, has 62 RBIs, and a .297 average.

In addition, Ohtani can wreak havoc on the mound and has 11 stolen bases. Barring an injury or Ohtani completely melting down, this will be your AL MVP.

After Ohtani, Corey Seager has the next-best odds at 3500. Seager is having the best season of his career and has only played in 47 games this year. The shortstop has some power at the plate and has cracked ten home runs this season. He has a .344 average and an on-base percentage above .400.

His stat line is truly impressive. He is averaging almost an RBI a game and has been an incredibly consistent hitter at the plate. If Shohei Ohtani was not in the race, Corey Seager would be my pick for this award.

The last player I want to highlight is Wander Franco. Franco, like Seager, is a shortstop and has a little power at the plate. Franco is an excellent defensive shortstop and has a ton of speed.

He leads the Rays with 25 stolen bases and has 42 runs. Franco is only 22 and will be a face of the MLB for years to come, but he does not offer as much as Corey Seager.

There is not much debate this season. Shohei Ohtani is crushing the baseball and dominating on the mound, so he will easily run away with the MVP award.
