It’s been a rough season for NBA heavyweights in the Boston Celtics and Philadelphia 76ers. The Celtics have found it incredibly difficult to play consistently well. At the same time, many continue to question the dynamic duo of Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. As for the 76ers, the Ben Simmons saga continues, as do Joel Embiid’s injury issues.

Both teams are barely above .500 and are looking for a spark to carry through for the rest of the regular season. Philadelphia is coming off a horrid stretch in which they lost eight out of their last 11 games. Although they’ve seen some promising play out of second-year guard Tyrese Maxey (18.0 points, 5.0 assists per game) in Simmons’ absence, the team really hasn’t been able to put it together this season.
As usual, the main concern outside of the Simmons drama has been Embiid’s health. He’s played only 11 games thus far and hasn’t looked like his old dominant self during those games.
However, Embiid did show some signs of life, recently dropping 42 points and grabbing 14 rebounds against the Minnesota Timberwolves. Unfortunately, the team failed to come out on top, with Karl-Anthony Towns and company getting the best of the 76ers in double overtime.
Although both teams have an identical 11-10 record, the Celtics have been more consistent than the 76ers. Boston hasn’t lost more than three in a row during any stretch during the 2021-22 campaign, with Tatum leading the charge averaging 24.3 points and 8.5 rebounds per game.
Both teams will want to get the win to start December the right way and make a statement as a potential playoff matchup down the line and somewhat of a bitter rivalry. It will all come down to Embiid in this one, as a solid performance from him might be enough to get the win on the road.
