The Brooklyn Nets will travel south to face the shorthanded New Orleans Pelicans. The Nets are on a tear and have won 12 of their last 13 games.
Conversely, the Pelicans are struggling with injuries and have lost two of their last three.
When healthy, this New Orleans squad is one of the best in the league, but right now, they are playing without Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson.
The Nets are surging but lost their last game to the Chicago Bulls 121-112. The Nets were only trailing by three heading into the final quarter, but Chicago put them away by scoring 33 fourth-quarter points.
Kevin Durant finished with 44 points on 15-22 shooting, but it was not enough. Kyrie Irving and Seth Curry also had strong games. Irving finished with 25 points and eight assists, and Curry had 22 points off the bench. The Nets shot well, but Chicago shot better and hit over 53% of their shots.
The Pelicans are coming off a 119-108 victory against the rebuilding Houston Rockets. New Orleans jumped out to a 45-22 lead after the first quarter, and the Rockets could not mount a comeback.
CJ McCollum led all scorers with 28 points. He was deadly from deep and shot 5-11 from behind the three-point line. Jonas Valanciunas also had a great game and finished with a 16-point, 17-rebound double-double.
If the Pelicans were healthy, I would expect them to win. However, they are playing without Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, so I have to give the edge to the Nets.
The Nets may have lost their previous game, but they are firing on all cylinders as of late. Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving are both averaging upwards of 26 points a game and can go off for 40 or more on any given night.
If the Pelicans had Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson, they would be much more offensively equipped to take on the Nets. They combine for upwards of 46 points a game.
However, they are out and leave New Orleans with a lack of offense. New Orleans does not stand a chance unless a couple of other Pelicans step up offensively (which is highly unlikely).. Bet on the Pelicans.
My Prediction: Nets 120, Pelicans 108
